Congress MLA Shrimant Balasaheb Patil has gone missing from the resort ahead of the crucial floor test in Karnataka assembly on Thursday. According to the sources, the Congress MLA was last seen in the resort at around 8 pm. SB Patil has been untraceable since then, sources said.

The sources have said that the party has been trying to locate the missing Congress MLA including at the airport.

Speaking to India Today TV, the sources said, “One more MLA missing from Congress resort. The whole Congress is looking for MLA Shrimant Balasaheb Patil. He was seen in the resort around 8 pm. Congress leaders are searching for him everywhere including the airport.”

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara on Wednesday held a meeting with the Congress MLAs at Prakriti Resort ahead of the trust vote in the assembly session on Thursday.

Congress MLA Shrimant Patil went missing just when the meeting was being held, according to the reports.

The development has come just a day before the trust vote to decide the fate of the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) government in the state called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

However, the resignations of the rebel Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs will be decided upon by Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar, as directed by the Supreme Court. The SC also said that the Karnataka Speaker cannot be forced to take a decision within a time frame.

The Supreme Court also dismissed the party whip issued by the Congress and the JD(S) where all MLAs were asked to attend the proceedings in the Karnataka Assembly on July 18, saying that “MLAs cannot be compelled to participate in the proceedings of the house.”

The Supreme Court also held that the 15 rebel Karnataka Congress-JD(S) MLAs cannot be compelled to participate in the trust vote in the assembly.
