Veteran lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar ripped into Omung Kumar’s upcoming film PM Narendra Modi, the biopic on India’s Prime Minister. The film stars Vivek Oberoi in the lead role and ever since the film was announced, it has been at the centre of several controversies. The latest among them seems to be a credit for Javed Akhtar under ‘Lyrics’ on the poster of the film, while the lyricist says that he is ‘shocked’ to find his name there.
Akhtar took to Twitter to post a screenshot of the credits on the film poster and wrote, “Am shocked to find my name on the poster of this film. Have not written any songs for it!”

Apart from Javed Akhtar, the poster has the names of Prasoon Joshi, Sameer, Abhendra Kumar Upadhyay, Sardaraa, Parry G and Lavraj.
The Vivek Oberoi-starrer PM Narendra Modi has the Saathiya actor stepping into the shoes of the Prime Minister. The trailer of the biopic was released online late on March 20, after a trailer launch event the same afternoon. Directed by Omung Kumar, the film’s trailer went viral on social media soon after it was unveiled, for reasons both good and bad. While some Twitter users hailed Vivek Oberoi in the role of Narendra Modi, others were of the opinion that the Company actor was miles away from the Prime Minister.
At the trailer launch of the film, Vivek Oberoi came dressed as PM Modi. Director Omung Kumar said at the launch event, “Modiji’s struggle is an incredible true story.”
The trailer of the film hit the web on Wednesday, just about 15 days before the release of the biopic. The biopic has already courted controversy because of its release date being brought forward from April 12 to April 5. India goes to polls on April 11, the first phase of the Lok Sabha election is to kick off on that date. While PM Narendra Modi biopic was earlier slated for a release the day after April 11, it has now been brought forward to April 5.
On Friday, the DMK sought a ban on the film PM Narendra Modi biopic till the Lok Sabha elections conclude.
The film, produced by Sandip Ssingh, Suresh Oberoi and Anand Pandit, raised eyebrows online for its release date-related issues. At the trailer launch event on March 20, when Oberoi was asked about the date changes, he said, “Main sirf ek hi baat bolna chahunga. Modi hai toh mumkin hai.”
