A behind-the-scenes look at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020 in New York
Apparently everyone has been waiting for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020! Every year, Victoria’s Secret gives us an idea of what’s hot right now: in lingerie, in pop music and, of course, in women’s bodies.
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020: The Place and Date
The highly anticipated Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020 took place on November 8 at Pier 94 in New York City after last year’s Shanghai show.
As happens every year, the Victoria Secret Engel shared the stage with musicians like Halsey, Shawn Mendes, The Chainsmokers, Rita Ora, and more, for an event that was much more than just a fashion show.
Over 800 million people tune in to see the iconic show every year, and we do not doubt it, the same will be true for the VS Fashion Show 2019-2020, which airs on Dec. 2, 2019-2020.
But you do not have to wait that long! We covered everything you could need to know about the Secret Fashion Show Victoria 2019-2020, including the new types of lingerie you could wear later this year, and who were the models who walked the piste.
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020: The Main Themes and The Collection
As always, the VS Fashion Show 2019-2020 presented a new Victoria’s Secret collection, consisting of seductive push-up bras and panties. Waist corsets, bodysuits and corsets were some of the other sexy offers of the famous lingerie brand. We also got T-shirts, leggings, sports bras, jackets and shorts that have a lot of potential to be worn as daywear.
Stylistically, the show was split into 7 parts, with the first section heavy on the tartan and full of some serious power clanking. It felt raw when the models wore matching bra and panty sets in bold colors like red, green and blue. Some models wore clashing, over-short high-waist kilts, while others wore belts with tartan fabrics attached to the back and flowed wildly behind them. The effect was raw and incredibly sexy.
As the lighting became quieter, the collection also became quieter with a range of lace undergarments in pink, cream and champagne tones. But even this section of the VS Fashion Show 2019-2020 had a bit of an edge, with models wearing darker high heels, and in some cases accessories or waist cinchers covered in a delicate black floral print.
From here, the collection swirled in the direction of romantic darkness at night, with darker, but still lace-like lingerie, thigh-high boots with stars and elements of the night sky in accessories and wings. Just as dark were the sportier designs in the following section, which included many sports bras and boyshorts, but also less practical top options, which were adorned with sporty-looking elastic straps.
Some of the designs this year did not shy away from politics, especially when it came to the neon-bright PINK part of the show. ROSA in a rainbow font seemed to be a commitment to sexual diversity, while models dressed as boxers and on the catwalk-moving muscles had to be interpreted as a feminist statement.
Next up is the long awaited Mary Katrantzou capsule collection for Victoria’s Secret. Similar to their spring / summer collection in 2019, this collection of lingerie (which in most cases can even be used as outerwear) was colorful and intense in print, with florals in the spotlight.
Of course, the show ended with a radiant, angelic look typical of Victoria’s Secret. We saw lingerie options in baby blues and soft pink, not to mention some really amazing Swarovski-encrusted bras and bodysuits.
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020: The Models and The Fantasy Bra
We saw many familiar faces at the VS Fashion Show 2019-2020, including the Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner (whose sister Kim caused a stir on social media by getting all the Kardashian / Jenner sisters to act as Victoria’s Secret Angels for Halloween) and the American Next Top Model Alumnus Winnie Harlow.
Remarkably, the show ended with the last walk of Brazilian model Adriana Lima for Victoria’s Secret. It was an impactful end to the show, which included a video montage of Lima’s 18-year career walking for the brand.
Aside from the celebrities and supermodels, there were 18 new faces this year – you can expect to see more of these new models on many future fashion weeks.
Elsa Hosk was the beautiful angel of the 2019-2020 Dream Angel Fantasy Bra valued at a whopping $ 1 million. The production of the luxury set of 2100 Swarovski-made diamonds and a centerpiece of 71 carat took over 930 hours.
The good news is that for the first time ever the replica of the Fantasy Bra with Swarovski crystals will be sold for $ 250 on Thursday, November 29 in selected Victoria’s Secret and online stores on the brand’s official website.
Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2019-2020: Model variety?
It is important to mention that the secretary fashion show Victoria 2019-2020 had failed to deliver the kind of variety many fashion fans had hoped for. While the show featured models with many different ethnic backgrounds, most of the body types were the same.
When the models for the catwalk show were announced, many quickly pointed out that Victoria’s Secret was not able to demonstrate any body variety or positivity, especially when compared to Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty spring 2019 lingerie collection, models of all ages, Shapes and models presented sizes, including a heavily pregnant Slick Woods.
When asked about their casting practices, Victoria’s Secret Manager was completely apologetic. They cited the high attendance that their runway show consistently achieved as a reason not to change their age-old practice of casting just one specific body type, especially when compared to the low ratings of an oversized show they make in the year Received on television in 2000. Of course we are not convinced. It is 2019-2020.
